About Usambara Mountains

Rising sharply from the plains of north-eastern Tanzania, the Usambaras are cool, green and full of life. Terraced farms and friendly villages sit among some of Africa's oldest rainforest, and paths link the two all the way to the edge of the escarpment.

There's no altitude to worry about here, so the walking is about the scenery and the people you meet. You can stay in one lodge at Lushoto, or walk from village to village.
